You should know by now, but maybe you don't, that Minnesota Wild star winger Marian Gaborik is entering the final year of his contract with Minnesota. The Wild have tried feverishly over the past few weeks to lock up Gaborik to a lucrative deal that would keep him in green and red for the rest of his career. Unfortunately for the Wild, "Gabby" has resisted, and seems to be far apart from the Wild on terms of his new contract. If Marian is not signed by the beginning of training camp, popular opinion is that he will be swiftly dealt away to a contender, and guess which team name has come up as much as any in speculation as to possible future locations for Gaborik? If you're not stupid, you guessed right- the Penguins.
Now, the entire team and fanbase would love to have Marian Gaborik in a Penguins jersey opening day in Sweden, make no mistake about it, but there are only certain conditions that would make it so I'd endorse trying to acquire him in a trade with the Wild. Among those conditions:
-The Penguins make a legit commitment to signing Gaborik long term.
-Jordan Staal and Ryan Whitney cannot both be dealt for him. One of the two would be acceptable, not both.
If the Penguins can show me that both of those things are happening, I officially cry out to Ray Shero to go out and get Sidney Crosby one of the top five gunners in the NHL, even better than Marian Hossa, yes.
Do it, Ray.

Amen.
I don't think Staal for Gaborik would be wise, simply because Staal is quickly becoming one of the best defensive forwards in the game... and he is still far from his prime.
Whitney on the other hand, well I don't want to job the guy, but I never like him. Whitney, a draft pick, and a bag of cash for Gaborik would be one hell of a deal and pretty much make the Pens a lock to win the Eastern Conference by the beginning of March.
It's an interesting deal with Staal.
He's got potential to be a star in this league, but Gaborik already is one, and let's not forget that there is only a 50/50 that we can even get 11 signed long-term.
Whitney.... HELL YES! That would be ideal, and make the Pens the second best team in the NHL.
I don't think either will happen. As much as I swore at Whitney last year, I'm willing to give him another chance after foot surgery.
I also don't think it will happen, Stephanie, and I am very content with that. Getting Gaborik is likely a pipedream, and I'd be thrilled if somehow he got here, but Whits and Staal are just as essential to the future as anyone not named Sidney.
I would not be interested in this. Gronk and Whit have too much potential. Gronk is being a solid third line center but is flexible enough to play wing. Look at his points racked up with Geno rookie season, look at his improved physical and defensive play last season. That's talent you don't want to get rid of ... big mistake.
Whit ... the poor guy always thrown under the bus. Like it or not, he's talented. And if I say this anymore I'm pretty sure it will get annoying and as stupid as "The Staals are brothers," "RJ is from Plum," and "Malone is from Pittsburgh," but Whit is the next Gonchar for us. He has his inconsistent games, but I know he's going to break out because of his depth. Great offensive defenseman, and recollect Gonchar wasn't always the star defenseman, but the one screwing up for a certain goal to let the Pens win. Whit has shown flashes of greatness, especially during the Playoff run. He produces some of the biggest points out of all the defensemen in the League. Now that he's hurt, he will be missed unless Letang's offense produces big time.
Honestly, I like Gaborik, great player, very solid but to trade those talents ... not worth it. We have a load of d-men right now, but Gonchar only has so many years before retirement and even with Golgi getting developed, Whit is a valuable resource. He has so much potential that just needs focused.
I'd like to get rid of some less than talented players then. If he doesn't want to be there and both organizations know this, no way will Shero have Staal or Whit slip. He will play them, and if he can't get them to make an iffy trade, all he has to do is wait until the offseason.
Kaspar you make very good points.
What would you think of Caputi and Grant (prospects)along with maybe Sydor or Scuds, for Gaborik?
That could get it done, maybe.
Depends on how Fedo pans out during the season. If he doesn't have the chemistry with Geno and Sykie, Caputi is a power forward and will use his body in every way possible. I have become attached to Caputi in the short time he has come onto the Pens organization in WBS, so also note I'm biased here. I can see Grant being moved, Sydor is going to be hard because his stupid NTC, and Scuds has been pretty big defensively for us. I would have seen a possiblity of Hal Gll moving if it wasn't for his size. Gaborik is going to be hard to get right now, and I'm sure other teams are interested in him, but who knows what happens during the trade deadline, Shero can pull this one out of his ass like he did with the Hossa trade.
Beech would be a one to lose (yes, I'm still bitter about him being the next Ronnie Franchise *laughs*
The Penguins should also get Zetterberg, Ovechkin, Iginla, Datsyuk, Thornton, Lecavalier, Spezza, Alfredsson, Kovalchuk, Kovalev, Ribeiro, St. Louis, Heatley, Eric Staal, Getzlaf, Roy, Pominville, Sundin, Doan, Savard, Kopitar, Sedin twins, Richards, Lidstrom, Streit, Campbell, Phaneuf, Markov, Green, Nabokov, Brodeur, Kiprusoff, Lundqvist, and Luongo. Then they should clone all those guys and get all the 1st overall picks from 2009 to ????
Lol what a bitch.
