Crosby's Penguins to meet Ovechkin's Capitals in second round

After the Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers on a Sergei Fedorov goal with five minutes left in Game 7, the Caps and rival Pittsburgh Penguins settled on their respective couches to take in the final few minutes of the New Jersey Devils-Carolina Hurricanes seventh game.

The Devils led with only a minute and a half to go, and were looking as if they'd be the team to advance to the second round. However, the Canes had something to say about that, scoring two goals in fifty seconds to tie and win the game, 4-3. Eric Staal got the winner past a badly choking Martin Brodeur.

So the Penguins, who were likely to face the Boston Bruins in Round 2, will now draw the explosive Capitals, and with them, the game's most electrifying talent in Ovechkin.

Finally, Ovechkin has a supporting cast around him put together by general manger George McPhee that managed to win the franchise's first playoff series in Ovechkin's tenure with the team.

Alex Semin, Mike Green, Brooks Laich, and the great Sergei Fedorov accompany Ovechkin to provide a hefty surplus of offense.

The wild card in this series will be the rookie netminder for Washington, Simeon Varlamov. The Russian backstop was thrown into the fire after Jose Theodore was annihilated in Game 1 against the Rangers after a shaky regular season. The Pens will throw offense at him that is vastly superior to the Rangers', though, and "Varly" will have to be up to the task.

Crosby and Malkin vs. Ovechkin is enough to make the internet hockey community explode.

This will be fun.
