Tough Climb Ahead

Just an ugly effort for the Penguins tonight.

They were outplayed badly.

Detroit is the better team.  Yes.

The Penguinith is not done yet, however.

They play these games for a reason.

Game 5 is Monday in Detroit.

Take it one at a time.

A win for the Pens in Game 5 leads to a home game six.

They sure as Hell don't plan on doing it tonight with their season perhaps on the line.

Game 3 Thoughts

Let me begin with a big old WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! for the lot of you.  Just a great team effort tonight by the Pittsburgh Penguins, and we are very much alive in this Stanley Cup Final.

Anyways.

• Marian Hossa didn't finish his plays on the scoring end, but had some nice passes.
• Crosby can make a great team look silly on a good night.  
• Dupuis is a great linemate for Crosby and Hossa.  
• Adam Hall was just sick, and rewarded with a goal.
• Gary Roberts is just great.  What a physical presence.
• Staal, Kennedy, and Ruutu with a shutdown defensive game.
• Ryan Malone is better at home than on the road.
• So are the Penguins as a team.
• The first change made a huge difference tonight.  Crosby away from Zetterberg.
• The Red Wings diving continued.  Disgraceful.
• Some nice leaping hits by Kronwall.
• IT IS A SERIES!

Live Blog of 3rd Period. Looking Ahead.

Just an ugly day for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Another uninspired effort on the road against a great team playing its game.  Very disheartening for me to watch as a Pens fan.  Vomiting.  The Pens have been convincingly destroyed twice to start this series.  They have not managed even one freaking goal.  Pathetic.  I hate the world right about now.  And you.  (kidding) 

All of that having been said.  This series is not over by a longshot.  Do I think the Pens will win the series right now?  Honestly I don't.  But that can all change with a victory in Game 3 AT HOME on Wednesday evening.  Obviously, if there is one thing that we Pens fans can look forward to, it is the chance to play at home.  Three months and change has elapsed since the Pens lost a game at the Mellon Arena.  The Pens will win Game 3.  Mark it down.  Mark it down.  Two home games.  The Pens need to win them both.  The Wings want to win the games.  Hopefully the Pens can get a few.

20:00- Alright Pens, time to come back like we know you can.  Falling down 2-0 against this team in the series is not insurmountable, but we'd love to avoid it!  Need to finish these plays, and start playing good offensive hockey like we've seen you do.  Stop dumping and chasing, and use your skill to try and penetrate the Wings defense.  They are great, but if the right buttons are pushed, Lidstrom and Co. can be beaten as well.

19:38- JUST EFFING GREAT!  Hossa takes a dumb penalty.  Powerplay Detroit.

17:38-  Good PK.  Just two more minutes with no Penguins scoring. 

16:51- Turnovers lead to shots.  Shots lead to goals.  Snap out of it.

16:18- Bugsy tries to take out Zetterberg!  Good.  Takes a penalty.  4 on 4.

15:30- Brief scrum in front of MAF.  Whatever.  

14:43- Damnit Hossa.  He misses another chance in front.  You waste of my time.  FINISH.

13:41- TV timeout.  Thank you.  I can't watch this.  Is it possible for the most potent offensive attack in the NHL to be embarrassed like this.  About to be 0 goals in 2 games?  Looks so.

13:35- Turnover Pens. Make that two turnovers.  Yawn.

12:34- TK with a chance!  And he misses!  Yawn.

12:11- Powerplay Pens!  Come on!  Open the floodgates!  This is CRUCIAL!

11:58- Malone takes a penalty.  PP over.  You piece of feces.  Toss the season why don't you.

11:12- Pens turn it over.  Detroit goal.  Game over.  Bye.

Thank Roberts... For Versus?

Interesting scenario on Saturday for NBC. The Red Wings and Stars play a game tomorrow at 1:30 PM Eastern at Joe Lewis Arena.  At 4:30, NBC is set to televise the Preakness Stakes.  

What this means is that if the Wings and Stars game runs even a little late, the NBC network will switch over from Detroit.... to horse racing.  Yes, horse racing, the same joke of a sport that has gotten to innocent young animals killed in the last 12 months.

So, if the hockey game continues to 4:30 or later, NBC will leave and go to horse racing.

Then, the broadcast will be picked up by Versus.  

Versus sucks.  But at least I can watch the game.

That'll be the last time you hear anybody praise Versucks.

He was, earlier in the year, playing like a bag of burning feces.

And the Flyers seek vengeance?

Now, we have the stars.

Mike Richards is not a god, contrary to belief in SEPA.

Marty Biron DOES NOT stop more pucks than Gary Roberts.

And the Flyers seek vengeance?

A PR department.

Almost pathetic as its city and hockey team.

Game 3 Thoughts

I missed the first period, and 3 of the games 5 goals, so I don't have enough outside of replays to recap the entire game today, but I will tell you what I noticed.

THE PENS ARE UP 3-0 AGAINST PHILLY WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

But anyways....

• Marian Hossa= best deadline deal of the century
• Sidney Crosby= cold blooded and determined
• Malkin looked off again.  We'll give him a pass, though.
• Fleury gives up ONE GOAL.  You need a great goalie.  We have it.

• If you get down to this team, you get the chokehold.
• Tyler Kennedy deserves a cupcake.
• These Penguins are good.  These Penguins are flying.

Step Up, Pittsburgh Edition

I'm gonna start by giving the traditional WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

The Pens did not bring their A-game tonight, but in the end, talent and heart win out.

The Pens have both.  Now it's 2-0 going to Philthy for Game 3, with a chance to bury them.

LET'S RECAP THIS THING

1st Period-

The Flyers had the early edge it looked like, but MAF held strong.

Scott Upshall and TK go at it, and TK gives him a Pittsburgh ass kicking.  Solid.

Scott Hartnell was up to his usual tricks, cheapshoting all over the lot.

Then lightning struck.  

Flyers fans can call him Cindy, but he doesn't care.  

Sid gets the shot, and gets it to sneak through "French Toast".

Sid scored another, but waved it off due to inconclusiveness.

Tough luck.

The Flyers answered with a goal from Jeff Farter, who takes a pass and buries it.

Tough luck Pens.  We go to the intermission knotted up.

2nd Period-

A bit way through, the Pens get a PP.  Hatcher of course gets in his bitching before he goes off.

A few seconds in, Hossa scores on a rebound.  That's how we roll.  

Hartnell takes a sucker punch on Ruutu as he hides behind the refs.  Coward.

Bitchards picks a Geno pass, and he scores.

3rd Period-

The difference between the Pens and Flyers is that when plays need to be made, the Pens make them, and Philly does not.  

Steve GoesDownie gives it away at the blue line.

Steal it and assist Talbot in front.  MONEY.

Staal empty netter.  WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

No Calls, No Problem

The perfect way to start out a series.

Total domination for the Pens, and a 4-2 win.  A 1-0 series win.

1st Period-

The Flyers come out with a bit of an edge, and they come close to a goal.

But they don't get it.

They get a powerplay, but they don't get one.

Then lives change.

Sykora gets the pass from Bugsy, and he makes the nice move for the backhander and goal.

Then Bitchards gets Philly on the board, big deal we know.

Then Bitchards scores moments later.  Angry blogger.

But then, the Pens respond just as we knew they would.

El Sid with the redirect from Hossa.  Tied up.

With six seconds left, Malkin gets a pass from Whits at the blue.

One on one with Biron is a goal, no matter who it is.  3-2.

2nd Period-

The Flyers get a BULLSHIT powerplay. 

Orpik apparently gave Hartnell menstrual cramps with a nice hit.

Flyers powerplay.

It works out well, though.

Bitchards messes up on the blueline.

Malkin is all alone with Biron.

Can you say "easy"?  4-2.

3rd Period-

The Cryers didn't even care.  The Pens dominate going away.

1-0 Pens in the series.

The refs were in the Flyers pocket, and it did not matter.  Way to be.

Pens Flyers. Game 1. Get The Popcorn.

The most unproductive day of our lives is upon us.  The Pens and the Flyers do battle tonight at Mellon Arena.  If you don't know how huge this is, just call up Gary Roberts and make a yo mama joke to him.  Immediately, you will feel a gust of wind, and then crash through a glass table, shrivel up, and die a slow and painful death.  If you don't know how huge this is, you probably don't deserve to be alive, really.  

Big news out of Philthy *cough* Philly is that their powerplay quarterback and best defenseman, Kimmo Timmonen, is out for the year with a blood clot in his ankle/foot region.  Unlike when Avery was spleened, I feel sorry for the man they call Kimosabi.  He has done nothing wrong outside of being a Flyer, which is actually pretty bad.  Hopefully, he misses this series, but is not seriously hurt in the long run.  Hope to see you back.... next year... Kimmo.  

On to greener pastures,

The Pens have no injuries heading in to this series, and are primed to advance to their first Stanley Cup since before I was a little fetus.  The Pens have home ice, and must utilize it fully with two wins to open this up.   

My own personal suggestion to Hartnell and Hatcher:

DON'T UPSET THE SID.  IT WON'T END WELL FOR YOU OR YOUR TEAM!

Just saying.

WAVE AND WEAR GOLD INSTEAD OF WHITE

As you know, earlier in the post season against the Whingers, and tomorrow night against the Cryers, the Mellon crowd, at the urging of the Pens, has arranged itself into a "whiteout".  White towels have been given out, and whiter, cheesier T's have been given away.  The idea here is to simply stop the whiteouts and change it to a golden setting.  "Gold Rush" or "Sea of Gold".

Just to name a few reasons why the white towels and shirts are a bad idea:

Pittsburgh is better represented by gold than by white.

The white towel is the universal sign of surrender.

The white towels are unoriginal, and waved by many other fans.

The away team wears white, though I think the home team should.

Gold is generally thought of as better than white.

WE'D BE THE FIRST IN THE NHL!
