The Penguins had it taken to them by the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4, but Marc-Andre Fleury repeatedly saved their bacon in a 4-1 victory that concluded a straight sweep of the Eastern Conference Finals. The now two-time defending conference champion Penguins will likely draw the Detroit Red Wings in a rematch of last year's final.
Eric Staal staked Carolina to a lead at 1:36 of the first period, but it was all Penguins from that point on.
Ruslan Fedotenko made a nifty deflection on a Phillipe Boucher slapper from along the goal line that tied the game at 1-1. Max Talbot then scored a rather fluky goal that beat Cam Ward on a high bounce, giving the Pens a lead going to the second period.
In the middle frame, Sidney Crosby fed Bill Guerin cross-crease for an insurance marker before the scoring was finally closed out by Craig Adams, who recieved a pass from Crosby prior to hitting an empty net in the final seconds.
The superstitious Crosby not only touched the Prince of Wales Trophy, but picked it up, grabbed it, and had his entire team touch it. A far cry from last year's thorough rejection of the trophy.
The Pens are going back to the Stanley Cup.
